Vendor Data Breach Response Checklist First 48 Hours
The first 48 hours of a vendor breach as 24 timed actions, each with a named owner, from the first notice through to the 48-hour executive checkpoint.
An editable 17-page playbook for the analyst running the first two days of a vendor breach, when the facts are incomplete, the vendor is slow to answer and the notification clock has already started. Every action names who owns it and the window it belongs to, so the record of what was done survives the shift handover.
What’s inside
- A readiness page confirming the vendor entity and service, what was reported and when, the data and systems in scope, the internal owners who can act, and the secure channel the response will run on
- 24 numbered actions, VBR-01 to VBR-24, each carrying the role that owns it and the window it falls in
- Six windows across the two days: First 60 minutes; Hours 1 to 4; Hours 4 to 12; Hours 12 to 24; Hours 24 to 48; and By hour 48
- Named owners running from TPRM lead and incident commander through legal, privacy, communications and the accountable executive, so no action sits unassigned at handover
- Response, evidence reference, action owner and due date against every item, so the completed form is the assessment record rather than a questionnaire you transcribe later
- A rapid final checklist that restates all 24 actions on one page for the 48-hour checkpoint
The assessment rule is written into the form: evidence should be current, complete for the service in scope, usable by your organization, tested where capability matters, and linked to a decision. A certificate, policy, screenshot or vendor statement is not enough on its own when it does not prove the specific requirement.
